The Brunching Shuttlecocks Thoughts From...

Thoughts from the 2002 U.S. Pairs Figure Skating Championship

[ Dave ]

It's fun to check out all the different skaters and try to figure out which one's gonna go all Tonya Harding on us.

[ Dave ]

Instead of throwing flowers onto the ice, they've given everyone stuffed Chevy emblems to toss. I'm torn between showing my appreciation for the skaters by tossing my stuffed Chevy emblem onto the ice and holding onto my stuffed Chevy emblem in case it turns into a collectible.

[ Dave ]

I like her costume a lot, she looks like the St. Pauli Girl.

[ Dave ]

Is there some kind of unwritten rule that says every other skating pair has to skate to the theme from Romeo and Juliet?

[ Dave ]

When I look closely at the costumes, all of the places that appear to be showing skin actually are covered with some skin-colored fabric. There go my fantasies.

[ Dave ]

What's a death spiral? I didn't realize that death was involved in skating or I would have become a fan sooner.

[ Dave ]

You now what would be really cool? If they skated around and around until they cut a hole in the ice and fell through.

[ Dave ]

Uh-oh. People are running out of stuffed Chevy emblems. This could get ugly. They're starting to throw sock monkeys.

[ Dave ]

Man, all this work and all they get is a free trip to Utah.
